Adam Bernstein
President of The Bernstein Companies and Chief Executive Officer
and Managing Director of Consortium Capital. The Bernstein Companies,
a leading real estate development and investment firm that owned and managed
more than 40 enterprises, including well known properties such as
Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield Inn, Best Western, and Sheraton.
Until 1999, Mr. Bernstein was Vice President and a Board Member
of Onyx International, LLC, an investment firm focused on early
equity positions in new technology firms. Mr. Bernstein was an early
investor in webMethods. Mr. Bernstein serves as a Board Member on
the Mid-Atlantic Regional Advisory Board for the University of Pennsylvania,
the Vice Chair for Leadership Gifts for the Sidwell Friends Annual
Fund, and serves as a Member of the Young Presidents Organization,
and the Steering Committee of the Jewish Venture Philanthropy fund.
Mr. Bernstein has also served as a Board Member for Metropolitan
Bank, N.A., and American University Family Business Forum. Mr. Bernstein
received his BS from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Randall Byrnes
Private investor and founder of Blackhawk Investments, LTD, a privately
owned firm that focuses on investing in the Naples, Florida, and
Washington, DC areas. Mr. Byrnes is an early founding investor in
the Golf Channel. He is a former Executive Vice President for Boston-based
Spaulding & Slye Company, a leading real estate development
company for which he founded the firm's Washington, DC, office.
While at Spaulding & Slye, Mr. Byrnes directed the structuring
of joint ventures with major institutional and Fortune 500 partners
representing more than $300 million in assets. He also cochaired
the Washington Scholarship Fund. Mr. Byrnes received his BA from
the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard.
Jack Fields
CEO of the Twenty First Century Group, Inc., and Texana Global,
Inc. Mr. Fields is a former Congressman from Texas (1981 to 1997)
and Chairman of the House Telecommunications and Finance subcommittees.
During his congressional tenure, he oversaw the comprehensive reform
of the Communications Act of 1934, which passed as the 1996 Telecommunications
Act, and the rewriting and passage of the National Securities Market
Improvement Act of 1996. He was also instrumental in passing the
Securities Litigation Reform Act. Mr. Fields is a Board Member of
AIM Management and Telscape International. He earned his BA and
JD degrees from Baylor University.
John
Gerdelman
Former President of the network and information technology division
of MCI Telecommunications Corporation. Mr. Gerdelman's 13-year
tenure at MCI covered sales, marketing, service, network operations & information
technology. As one of three MCI division presidents responsible
for achieving MCI's annual earnings targets, he delivered on MCI's
network and information technology strategy - including the transition
from a priced based telecom company to a global full service communications
company. Mr. Gerdelman led over 20,000 network and information
technology professionals from the bottom to the top of industry
ratings in network quality and reliability, best of class in data
centers, data warehousing, billing systems and numerous software
and hardware performance categories. Other assignments included
senior vice president in the consumer division and President and
CEO of MCI Services Corporation. Before MCI, Mr. Gerdelman was
with Baxter Travenol Corporation after serving in the U.S. Navy
as a Naval Aviator after graduation from of the College of William
and Mary. He is currently a director for Sycamore Networks, Ineto,
Inc., McData Corporation, and Jetstream Communication.
James Hosmer
Officer and Member of Board of Directors, Nixon and Vanderhye.
Mr. Hosmer has over 21 years' experience as a practicing intellectual
property attorney. Over the past 14 years, Nixon and Vanderhye has
grown from 5 attorneys to 35, who handle more than 2,000 active
clients including British Telecom, Ericsson, General Electric, Sharp,
Nintendo, and Toshiba. In addition to evaluating hundreds of inventions
in complex technical fields, Mr. Hosmer has also served on due diligence
teams responsible for acquiring of new technologies developed by
start-ups. Mr. Hosmer received his BS in Chemical Engineering from
the University of Arizona and graduated from The American University
Law School.
Andrew Lipman
Partner, Bingham McCutchen, LLP. Former Vice Chairman and Senior Partner, Swidler Berlin Shereff Friedman,
LLP. Mr. Lipman has worked on acquisitions of MCI and Brooks Fiber.
While a partner at Swidler Berlin, Mr. Lipman has also served as
Senior Vice President, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, of MFS Communications
for more than 10 years. Under Mr. Lipman's guidance, Swidler Berlin
served as a counsel for MVP America. He is a graduate of the University
of Rochester and Stanford Law School.
Bruce Mackler
Founder, Life Sciences Management Group, Inc. Former shareholder in Heller Ehrman White
and McAuliffe, LLP, a law firm focusing on high technology, biotechnology
and traditional medical device, drug and biologic companies, and
regulatory advisor to venture groups for 23 years. Dr. Mackler was
a founder and General Counsel to the Association of Biotechnology
Companies (ABC), which emerged to form the Biotechnology Industry
Association (BIO). Dr. Mackler has represented international and
US life sciences companies before the US Food and Drug Administration,
US Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, and
other federal and state regulatory bodies. As legal/regulatory counsel,
Dr. Mackler has assisted in obtaining device, drug, biologic, cosmetic
and food product registrations, resolving regulatory/legal compliance
issues and product liability exposures. Dr. Mackler was an active
researcher in Immunology/Microbiology (Immunochemistry) publishing
100 scientific articles/abstracts, a Fellow at the Kennedy Institute
of Rheumatology (London), an extramural contract researcher at the
National Institutes of Health, and an Associate Professor at the
University of Texas Medical Center. Dr. Mackler received his BA
from Temple University, a MS degree from Pennsylvania State University,
a Ph.D. degree from the University of Oregon Medical School, and
a JD degree from South Texas College of Law, Texas A&M University.
Susan Mandl
Private Investor & Former Senior Vice President of Lucent Technologies. Ms. Mandl served as International Vice President,
with operational and profit-and-loss responsibilities, for Lucent
Business Communications Systems, a firm of 26,000 employees that
designs, manufactures, markets, and maintains communications systems
in more than 90 countries. Ms. Mandl also served as CEO of Newcourt Communications
Finance, an organization providing customers with financing to acquire
data, voice, and video equipment. Newcourt Communications has more
than $2.2 billion in assets and in excess of $1.5 billion of newly
booked volume annually. It operates in 25 countries around the world.
Ms. Mandl is a member of the Boards of
Trustees of WETA and The Washington Opera. Ms. Mandl holds a BA
from the College of Wooster and completed the Senior Executive Program
at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Nancy Roblin
Partner and Vice President,
Korn/Ferry International. Ms. Roblin has led Korn/Ferry's
emergence as the search leader for CLECs and DSLs, ISPs, and other
new carriers. Working with venture capital firms, she staffs CEO
and Board searches in Internet and carrier companies. Ms. Roblin
has conducted Vice President and Director searches in marketing,
sales, information technalogy, business development, engineering,
operations, finance, and product management. Ms. Roblin also spearheaded
the wireless practice, performing searches for AirTouch, AT&T
Wireless, and start-ups. Ms. Roblin earned a BA from Vassar College
and an MA from Boston University.
